M & K Elopement

My heart is achin’…

Elopements can be a detailed planned event for some, but that was not Melanie & Kevin’s way of committing to each other. M had taken off Thursday, October 7th for her dogs birthday… if that fact alone didn’t make you love her, the next moments will. She called me just the Monday before looking to, last minute, take that day off of work and other responsibilities to get married. My favorite officiant, Michael Peter, and I were the only two present as M & K vowed to love each other through the storms(thank goodness they cleared just as the ceremony started). Not having their wedding bands mailed in time, M bought washers from the hardware store. They laughed at the story they would one day get to share with family, of the inability to wait for rings to be wed. They promised to slide the purchased rings on to their designated fingers in the 3-4 business days they would arrive, and sealed the bond with a kiss. Strangers in Washington Square applauded for the newly wedded couple as they held each other. We toured the streets downtown, getting honks and “congrats!” from all in the area, horse and human alike. M & K told me the story of their meeting, how they practically danced around each other their entire lives until they finally met when they both moved from Maine and into the same apartment building in Charleston. This couple made such an impression on me, and I only met them 3 days ago. Remember to live in the moment, look around, and keep your heart open! Do the dang thing!!! Congrats M & K, have fun in Greece! (I might see you there!)

… you’re really easy to love.
